My Gear Series - Kayak

Updated: Feb 24, 2020

I'm doing a series about my gear and why I like it. I don't receive any compensation from the manufacturers or dealers. My gear series: This is my “everyday” boat. It is a Perception America 11.0. It’s fun to paddle and handles a little like a whitewater boat. You can lean into turns and also quickly do a 180, very maneuverable. It has tunnels in the hull so it tracks well for a short kayak. The America is light, inexpensive, and easy to enter and exit. Cons: no bulkhead, slow. Not having a bulkhead can be a problem if you capsize away from shore. There will be a lot of water in the boat. To help alleviate this problem I have added inflatable air bags in the stern to reduce the water volume and increase the buoyancy. As for the slowness, it's hard to keep up with sea kayakers. All things considered, the America is great for what I do.
